A group of young hipsters flocked to a local natural wine bar to see one of NYC’s signature events–a rat runway show. After a few sips of something they swear is “funky but still drinkable,” it was time. One of the most organic elements of this particular runway show was that the audience never knew when it would begin. Up until the first model came out some of the attendees didn’t even know that the location had been confirmed. It’s that level of exclusivity that left people scrambling for front row seats.
The opening model, Auguste, has walked a number of runways around the city and hopes to one day get into acting like her father, Remy. Coming in at about 10 inches long with a 7 inch tail and a plus sized build she was making the backyard of that wine bar her subway tracks.
Audible gasps from the audience could be heard as she strutted her stuff. After making her way across the wooden floor, gracefully touching a few pairs of feet, she scaled the wall and disappeared. No final walk around. No second look. And just like that the show was over.
Front row guest, Mike Tardy, said, “It was the most New York show I’ve ever seen.”
Seated right beside him, Brooklyn resident Cathy Nassau commented, “Ew, what the actual f&$k.”
The show runs 365 days a year at a variety of locations around the city and features nearly 3 million local models.
